Das Gerundium eine ing-form

What you like, or dislike doing

GERUND

Hierbei handelt es sich um eine „ing-form“ des englischen Verbs.  An jedes englische Verb kann die Endung „-ing“ angehängt werden.  Abhängig von ihrer Funktion im Satz wird diese Form als Gerundium (gerund) bezeichnet.

Das Gerundium ist eine Verbform, die als Substantiv verwendet wird:

             Learning is important.

Es kann aber auch ein weiteres Objekt bei sich haben:

            Learning English is not easy.

Im Deutschen wird das Gerundium auf zwei Arten übersetzt.

           Learning English is not easy.

durch ein Substantiv:  Das Englischlernen ist nicht leicht.

durch einen Infinitiv:  Englisch zu lernen ist nicht leicht.

Die Bildung:

an das Infinitiv eines Verbs wird die Endung „–ing“ angefügt:

  •  cook  – cooking Regelfall
  •  take  – taking  stimmloses ‚e‘ entfällt
  •  win  – winning Verdoppelung des Endkonsonanten

 Das Gerundium wird gebraucht:

1. als Substantiv (Subjekt) eines Satzes

Learning is important.

Dancing is great fun.

2. als Substantiv  (Objekt) nach bestimmten Verben.

  • to like           I like drinking coke.
  • to start          I started playing football.
  • to prefer        I prefer eating fish to eating vegetable
  • to finish          I finished playing a game on my PC.
  • to suggest       She suggested going to the disco.
  • to enjoy          I enjoy riding my bike.
  • to love            I love swimming.
  • to stop            I stopped being lazy.
  • to begin          I began training hard.
  • to continue      I continued reading the book.
  • to hate            I hate doing nothing.

Bei all den Beispielen handelt es sich um Handlungen, wie:

Fahrradfahren – Schwimmen – Faulsein – …

Natürlich geht auch „I like books.“ – hierbei handelt es sich jedoch um kein Gerundium!
